Heavy Metal monk Capuchin Friar Cesare Bonizzi!! RAWK ON!!!!
by Lady Zombie inplease tell me there are some other metal fans in here besides me!
some of you mentioned receiving flack from the elders because you listen to rap, but surely there has got to be some other rock n' roll and metal fans in here.
i still remember the flack i got for listening to 80's music, classic rock n' roll (loved jethro tull, doors, pink floyd, and so on), and worst of all.....heavy metal!

The only way they knew was because some self-righteous elder kid snooped through my music collection when my parents had them and their parents over for dinner.
Of course now, I've been out on my own for so long, I play whatever I damn well please.
Anyway........
It seems that not only is a Catholic monk a Heavy Metal fan, he is also a Heavy Metal artist!
[LZ flashes 'devil horns' hand gesture] HELL YEAH!
Helen Long reports:
Jul. 17 - 62-year-old Italian Capuchin Friar Cesare Bonizzi is nor ordinary heavy metal rocker.
Brother Cesare is better known among Italian heavy metal fans by his nom de rock, Fratello Metallo (Brother Metal). Describing himself as a "preacher-singer", "Brother Metal" has been singing for over a decade and has just released his 18th album.
For some reason, this is amazingly cool to me. Here we have a 62 year old 'Man of God' so to speak who understands that religion and serving God is not about petty sh*t, appearances, self-righteous 'works,' but rather to appreciate and celebrate life.
And coming from an atheist like me, that is one hell of a compliment!

Bethel! Is there anyone who DID NOT long to visit Bethel
by purpleplus inbethel is the witness equivalent to mecca.
i never had a strong urge to go, unlike others in the borg.
its funny to hear people marvel at the speed of the printing presses there.

My folks have offered to pay all my expenses if I would go with them on their every-other-year trip to NY and Bethel.
"Your father and I will pay for everything if you would just come once!"
I always tell them, sorry, not interested.

The Watchtower Organization - A Toxic Parental Figure
by Jeremy C inalmost everyone who leaves the watchtower organization acknowledges the fact that the jehovahs witnesses leadership is quite masterful when it comes to using guilt as a means of motivation and coercion.
throughout the watchtower articles, convention talks, and talks given by traveling overseers, there are often statements woven into the material that are designed to evoke feelings of guilt in those who are not robotically falling in line with all organizational programs and group-think.
in addition to the many cliches, buzzwords, and catch-phrases used in watchtower material, the organization also makes comparisons between the field service activities of witnesses in one part of the world to another part of the world.

guilt or inspiration - its all in your perspective.
Uh........no. "Inspiration" via guilt is still toxic, no matter the "perspective."

I knew a JW pioneer woman who got frost bite because of the WTBTS FS dress policy.
Of course, since she didn't have a Full Time job that had benefits, she was saddled with the entire medical bill.
Then she was made to feel like shit when the elders hounded her because she stopped full time pioneering.
The poor woman lost 2 toes from one foot, 1 toe from the other foot, and damage to her legs!
She was DF'd two years later. For what, I don't know.
*&^% bastards.

I was born and raised JW too. IMHO there is no god. I've read the bible cover to cover.
Now that you see that the WTBTS is false, I encourage you to explore everything your heart desires, including other faiths and religions, even atheism!
What is true for me, may not be true for another, but the only way you can decide, is to explore everything!
Welcome to JWD!!

psychology conditioning of a cult member?
by ZeroZen inwhat do you think of the psychology conditioning of a cult member?
how is religious addiction, spiritual abuse different from a drug problem?
if the person was dealing with a drug problem eating disorder, ptsd, emotional problem etc.

That's when the brainwashing kicks in. All cults do it.
The cult tells the victim that they are righteous because they're a member of the cult. God is smiling on them. Then, they tell the victim that since they have god's blessing, other people will hate them and will try to turn them away from the cult. With the JWs, they tell people that since they "have the truth now," they're now hunted by Satan and only they can keep them safe. They'll tell the victim that Satan will use their own family to turn them away from "the truth." This puts the cult victim in a paranoid state. They start seeing Satanic attacks everywhere. They'll think, "The JWs must be right because tthey warned me that this would happen!" So they burrow in further into the cult.
Jim Jones and David Koresh said the same thing to their followers.

In general, people join cults because they are at a time in their lives when they're in a search mode.
"Do I have a purpose? If so, what is it?"
"Is there a god?"
"Are people good or evil by nature?"
When people are vulnerable due to existential crises, they're easy marks for culs. A person is sad because they just lost their husband/wife in death and along comes a JW who seems to have all the answers. Blamo! Snared like a rabbit.
Intelligence has nothing to do with it. When a person has a crisis of the psyche, demographics have nothing to do with i.
Humans are also intrinsically interested in what is true. When a cult like the JWs come along and state that they have the truth and are willing to give it freely, the temptation is there to investigate. Blamo!
This is why all cults, not just JWs, are dangerous.

Pantyhose
by Princess Daisy Boo insomething that has facinated me since i started reading and posting on this board was the whole "women must always wear pantyhose" idea... .
the thought sometimes crosses my mind as to whether or not there were any differences in the borg from country to country - but the only issue i have come across is the pantyhose one.
in south africa, to the best of my knowledge, while i was "in", this was not a requirement - we only wore stockings if the weather required it.
-
Lady Zombie
I think it must be that whole dress as to honor Jehovah thing the witnesses have going.
I think they believe bare legs are too casual. Here a lot of the women go bare legged in the summer, but only if the skirts fall at least mid calf. If a sister wears a skirt that is just below the knee, she'll wear pantyhose.

Now if the man would have been a JW, he would have offered you literature, because as every good JW knows, the "life saving message" contained in the publications is worth far, far more than any act of kindness!
